The leading New Zealand designer, Jessica Close has overseen a bold, chic and elegant contemporary design scheme for the Observatory Hotel. The interior design of each guest room is unique in colour and scheme. A contemporary take on Arts and Crafts is reflected in fabric selection and the custom designed and locally produced furniture, furnishings and accessories.
Wherever possible antiques and mid-century pieces have been sourced to add to the patina of the overall design. The bold colour block carpet design was inspired by the work of renowned artist Gordon Walters. The classically designed bathrooms are beautifully appointed with Perrin and Rowe fixtures.
Guest room art is by emerging New Zealand artists, carefully curated to suit each space and is available to purchase.
